  1. We get that sort of thing all the time round here. Sometimes there are aggressive shouts, the sound of people running, police sirens and flashing blue lights etc when I am in my yard imaging at night. Sometimes I think I would feel safer on my own in the middle of nowhere. 😁
  2. Here are the first 12 and the last 12 subs. It is difficult to tell, but it might be a bit brighter.
  3. Hi Stu Is it likely to have got brighter between the time I started imaging and the time I finished?
  4. 352x 10sec iso3200 taken between 22:47 and 01:34 12/13th June.
  5. OK. Wow! My first nova. I can just about make it out in a pair of 8x21 bins which someone gave me as an xmas stocking filler. 🙂
  6. Stamping. Lots of stamping. Or you could get some form of insecticide that kills earwigs,
  7. I'm going to have a go at imaging this tonight. I'll be dead chuffed if I ca get a decent image.
  8. I'm 4 months in and haven't captured a decent image yet. It's not easy. I don't think that there is any instant gratification in this hobby, it's all about learning and improving in incremental steps. There are rigs like Stellina Meet STELLINA, our observation station | Vaonis which are designed to produce good images without all the frustrations. It looks like your kit is quite capable.
  9. So I showed her a picture of a William Optics ZS61 II, and mansplained all about it, but all I got was a shrug and "whatever". When I showed her a pair of Brown leather Adidas Beckenbaur All-rounders, It was "you've got to buy those." 😄
  10. Well said. I'm hoping that I can rope him into astronomy. We have done beer brewing and barbequing together as hobbies.
  11. If he is using it, then that's fine by me. He's not the sort of guy who would put it on ebay. I'm confident of getting it back, but having given it to him I think that I should ask that he lend it to me on a long term basis.
  12. When I moved into my house, about 5 years ago, I found a Meade telescope in my loft. I wasn't into Astronomy at the time. So I mentioned it to a friend of mine down the pub and he said he wouldn't mind having a telescope - so I gave it to him. The next time I see him, I'm going to ask him if he still has it, and if he would lend it back to me if he isn't using it. I don't remember much about it but it's features were thus. A refractor, maybe 80-90mm. Not all that heavy. About 1 metre long. It had a goto mount which was an alt-az with a built in wedge. The mount was a bit plastic. Does anyone have ant ideas about what it is?
  13. Maybe what Peter is saying is that's the last one you will actually be able to see until 2090 because of the lousy weather. 😄
  14. In the meantime, I will go back to using the Star Adventurer mount. I have got an IR/UV cut filter on the way, so let's see if I can do something about the star bloating.
  15. A replacement. But there is no stock at the moment, so maybe some time. I went through absolutely everything that I could be doing wrong - 10 times just to be sure.😂
  16. My Mrs works for a charity on the retail side. I've got her keeping an eye out for anything telescope/camera related. So far only junk though, but you never know.😉
  17. Ah, I get it now. 😄 Well you should be safe enough from football hooligans. Unless that is your preferred dark sky site is outside Celtic Park. 😄
  18. They look fierce. Wouldn't it be cruel to lock it in the boot of your car? Would it even fit? What if it decided it wanted to get out - it would wreck the car .😄
  19. I am beginning to realise that. 😁 should I be worried? When I go to my dark sky site and there is a guy already there. Will he be carrying a hunting knife or pepper spray? I know he looks like he is there to do astronomy, but is he secretly thinking of whether to hit me with a torch or a counterweight bar? Maybe I should take a flick-knife next time I go just to be on the safe side.😂
  20. Yeah, no need to apologise. I didn't mean that I wasn't enjoying the thread. 😀 You are right, most of us are from the UK and don't need to worry about dangerous wild animals.
  21. This is a very silly thread. Does SGL always get this silly in the summer months? Look - no one in the UK should go armed to their preferred dark site, or anywhere else for that matter. There are no dangerous wild animals, and no-one is going to rob you for your astro kit. Robbers want cash or things they can sell quickly, not high end scientific equipment with a limited market. In other countries where there are bears, wolves and other wild animals, the situation may be different. Those people should probably contact their local wildlife authorities for advice as to what is considered sensible. It is interesting what obstacles there are for astronomers around the world. Here I'm mostly concerned about the cloudy weather and light pollution. I have enough of a job just getting my kit to work, so I am glad I don't need to worry about what wild animal is stalking me or the armed maniac lurking in the bushes.🙂
