Budget Eyepieces - Trash or Treasure?
apaulo replied to AstralFields's topic in Member Equipment Reviews
did you sell the morph. -
Good idea Michael, It might be possible to take the screw out and make a point at the end of it. I havnt considered that option yet. A harder screw might be a better option, something that wont snap easily and maybe high tensile steel, all ideas are very welcome.

the clicklock will not fix the problem. That only holds the diagonal.
-
The baader clicklock is a great system i have it on my 2" baader diagonal and will fit the click lock on the starfield. I do find at times with the e q mount it is very useful at times to turn the focus tube into a better position. On reflection it would not be a big job for the manufacturer to add a second thumb screw. As a telescope the starfield has a lot going for it.
-
I find the starfield a nice bit of kit to use. I use it mainly for observing but i do put a dslr on it from time to time. The annoying problem i have with it is, the thumb screw dosnt seem sufficient to stop the complete focuser and tube twisting. I find that i really have to crank this screw up very tight for it to hold. In fact i have even considered using pliars on it but i have stopped short of that. Has anyone else got the same problem or is my scope faulty. I know about the baader twist lock upgrade, but this is the thumb screw for the tube. Any help and advice would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

I think the manufacturers warranty reflects the makers life expectancy of the product. I bought an item a while back it came with 6 years full manufacturers warranty, that tells me, these guys like this product. What do we get with over priced astro tat, 12 months . It speaks for itself.

This sounds like very useful info for users of this mount. I am glad i dont have 1.

welcome malcolm you might get a bit of clear sky later tonight there.

That proves that the old guys had brains. unlike today if google and face book shut down the nut houses would be overflowing. Everyone was not born after 1972. Us oldies can and do work in both systems.

Wider FOV 68 Vs 82 Degree for a fast scope
apaulo replied to Ratlet's topic in Discussions - Eyepieces
No, we get the opposite, then are told baader pushed the prices up. Just greed. -
i use thousand oaks foil, i think the main difference between thuousand oaks and baader foil is, oaks gives you a yellow sun, and baader a white sun, so its purely a choice of what colour you want the sun. i think performance ways they are both very similar.

I just purchased and received a Celestron AVX mount from widescreen. Simon was very knowledgeable and helpful over the phone. Very prompt delivery as it has been in the past from them. I would recommend wide screen anytime.

Eyepiece collection for use with a 102mm f7 ED refractor.
apaulo replied to Grump Martian's topic in Discussions - Eyepieces
With my starfield and 200p ota i use a full set of baader morphs 4.5mm- 17mm, explore scientific 24mmx68 and a pentax XW3.5 -
I think most of us have similar experiences. myself personally just the other night about 12-15 am and -5 degrees.

Do not be fooled by any low priced marine grade plywood its rubbish. You might have to settle for a decent sheet of exterior ply, and cut it up more or less as soon as you get it, before it warps.

lose it in the snow lol

Testing out the Dob - mostly inclined towards clusters
apaulo replied to Ratlet's topic in Observing - Reports
I understand now. The varnished plywood base would look smart. good luck with the project, it would be good to see the finished mount. -
Testing out the Dob - mostly inclined towards clusters

Having done similar with a homemade dob, and also with the skytee 2 I now use. I am wondering how you are going to see the dial when the telescope is in the way. a setting circle is a big plus, i personally would not be without it. When i made mine i had a local sign maker print me of a protractor to suit my base, the markings are quite far apart and a point can split them. Also when setting up its important the dob is as level as you can get it. Or close as. The same goes for aligning it with polaris. I hope this is of help. -

i dont think there is much difference in any of them , unless you go really up market. i use 1 from amazon. i think the lidl 1 will be just as good if not better. good luck
