Barnard dark nebulae in the Taurus Molecular Cloud
Magnum replied to gorann's topic in Imaging - Deep Sky
Cracking image Lee -
Theres no control over it really, i think you can change one parramatta when running from the command line which alters the size of the chunks it chops the image into, apparently that can help with artifacts. But i just run it in the default setting

Thanks Peter, I think thats because I installed Starnet after id processed the image so I simply removed the stars from the final image as I didn't want to go back to the beginning LOL
-
In this case I was trying out the stand alone version of Starnet for Mac OS
-
ive been having a play making a starless version can never decide if I like these or not, though they seem to be the current fad at the moment LOL feel like removing the stars adds noise, or maybe just makes it more noticeable

Imaging with the Samyang 135mm f2
Magnum replied to Uranium235's topic in Getting Started With Imaging
I found some info on the baader website, looks like the standard 7nm baader is ok down to f2.8. So looks like mine cant be going too far off band but there will be some losses at the fastest end. plus a good write up on the subject by Baader. https://www.baader-planetarium.com/en/blog/baader-highspeed-filters-and-why-different-fratios-require-special-filters/ -
Imaging with the Samyang 135mm f2
Magnum replied to Uranium235's topic in Getting Started With Imaging
Just captured this image of the heart of Orion my recently purchased samyang135, though I was hoping for a bit more structure at the bottom and really had to work hard on this image, straight out of the camera there was much more contrast in the centre 50% of the image than the outer parts which looked washed out ( almost like reverse vignetting ), im wondering if my Baader 7nm Ha filter is going off band at f2.8, can't decide wether to stop the lens down ( defeats the purpose of buying it ) or upgrade to an Antlia 3nm filter which ive seen examples of working well with RASAs at f2.2. my filter has always worked fine with my other optics including my old slower Pentax 135. Can people here comment if they have experienced issues of their Ha filters going off band with this lens? weirdly ive seen a much deeper image taken using just an Optolong L extreme filter used at f2 which theoretically as a triband filter should be inferior to the true 7nm ha filter for something like this. This is 21 x 10 min subs in Ha using my Samyang 135mm F2 lens set at f2.8 & my Atik383L ccd camera. Guided, captured, stacked and stretched in MaximDL processed in Photoshop. -
The weather finally broke long enough this week for me to start the project ive been wanting to do for the last 3 months. Managed to get a few hours on it spread over 2 nights but the moon will be in the way for the next 2 weeks and im loosing Orion behind a tree earlier every night now so will remain a work in progress until next winter. Anyway this is the widest and deepest image ive ever captured of the heart of Orion, though I was hoping for a bit more structure at the bottom, when straight out of the camera there was much more contrast in the centre 50% of the image than the outer parts, im wondering if my Baader 7nm Ha filter is going off band at f2.8, can't decide wether to stop the lens down or upgrade to an Antlia 3nm filter which ive seen examples of working well with RASAs at f2.2. Thanks Peter and Dave I tried to delete the duplicate one but It won't let me LOL

Well the weather finally broke about 10:30 last night and I am once again capturing photons. Went for the IC410 The Tadpole Nebula, and IC405 the Flaming Star Nebula. 13 X 10 min exposures in Ha with my Atik460 mono CCD & Sharpstar 61EDPHII f4.5 Triplet refractor. Guided, Captured, Stacked and stretched in MaximDL5, final processing in Photoshop. No darks or Flats Reports of CCD being dead are greatly exaggerated

Dont remember seeing this image when you first took it Dave, you have some real fine detail on the horse. Lee

Sadr widefield Samyang 135
Magnum replied to Stardust's topic in Imaging - Widefield, Special Events and Comets
Nice image Dave, and great find when the weather is bad Lee -
Excellent images Peter Did you use a filter for Barnard 7 with the OSC, if so which one? also how dark are your skies on the Bortle scale? cheers Lee

Here is my first light image with my new wide field OSC setup. 34 x 5 min at Gain100 with the ZWO ASI533C colour camera + Optolong L Enhance filter & My Samyang 135mm f2 lens set to f2.8. To say im pleased with this lens is an understatement. Although ive had deeper images of this area before with mono Ha images, I like how the colour camera is picking up the natural colours in certain targets. not giving up mono at all, but this makes a nice change and is quicker to process as colour than my normal Bi Colour process. I would normally take some shorter subs for the core but didn't bother on this one yet. Very. minimal processing in MaximDl and Photoshop. Lee

SkyWatcher Field Flattener for Evoguide 50 ED
Magnum replied to FLO's topic in Sponsor Announcements and Offers
Yes the Starizona flattener for this is going to have about 45mm spacing for DSLR, but Its been in production all year and never seems to get announced, I wonder now this official one is out they have decided to cancel their one. -

ignore that, I see its 17.5mm, its listed in the specs as back focal length rather than back focus LOL -

Have they said what the back focus distance is with this flattener? Lee -
thanks

Quite enjoying wide field imaging at the moment, so pointed the camera towards the Sadr ( Gamma Cygni ) region last night. started clouding over at 1:30 am so only managed 1.5 hours of good data, but really happy with the result, really nice field of view including the crescent nebula at the bottom. So this is 6 x 15 min subs in Hydrogen Alpha, with the Atik383L CCD & my old Pentax 135mm SMC @f5.6. Considering this lens was full of fungus and had it to bits for cleaning its not doing too bad is it 🙂 Now is using an EQ8 overkill for imaging with a 135mm lens LOL, and guiding with my 5" triplet at 950mm FL? 😛 Lee
