  1. My first Newtonian was a Charles Frank 6inch on a manual eq mount. Must of been around 14 years old at the time. Saved up my summer job, Christmas and birthday money to buy it, lol. Telescope's back then in the early 70's were expensive compared to today in comparison to wages. Pic added, but not mine, this has electric drives.
  2. The sun today Sunday 6th December. Just a pic in the Solar RoR. Lunt 60mm Double Stack, Zwo Asi 178mm, Solarquest Mount.
  3. Hi all, doesn't matter if it's white light, ha or Ca-k line. It all counts and it's important to count and observe the frequency of sunspots in white light as much as any other wavelength. Observations can be sent to the BAA Solar section. You can contribute no matter what wavelength you observe in. Don't be thrown by ha and Ca-k. In fact I had a Baader white light filter and a Baader Ca-k line filter (not the £1000 Lunt) for my birthday yesterday.
  4. You could try Ca-K it's a blue wavelength. Not my image, it's an example of what can be seen in Ca-K line.
  5. 60mm Lunt for sure and later get the double stack front etalon. I got my 60mm first second hand and then found a second hand 60mm front etalon a year later. Been fantastic and my most used scope.
  6. Lovely, I soooo want a Lunt 100 DS. In my dreams, lol.
  7. And I thought I'd gone over the top with my pilar mounting, lol. Nothing like future proofing the pilar, that was my thoughts too, lol.
  8. Looking good. During the winter day's I've only a one hour window of opportunity between trees and being to low so it's quite difficult with the weather as well to have that observing opportunity.
  9. Yep, you have to be very careful using night time scopes during the day, especially finder's which are often forgotten. Use solar filters on them or cover them up.
  10. Awwwww, thanks Sunshine, you've got an appropriate name, lol.
  11. You could always say you need a solar filter so you'd get more use out of the scope by using it during the day, lol.
  12. Thanks for sharing, cloud here, but managed yesterday to get some data and it's supposed to be clear tomorrow.
  13. Thanks everyone, as peps are saying, the sun will now only get better to observe.
  14. Just started a day time topic, lol. Post it there too, lol. Thanks, brilliant, show's others that they can view a real star up close and personal too.
  15. Hi all, there's lots of telescope action during the night but that's only half the day. Show off your set up in action during the day.
  16. I'm going to start a topic, "show's us your set up in action during the day" lol.
  17. Awwww, it's the thought that counts, lol. Seriously though, I've always thought that no matter what.
  18. That's a really good idea. Do they do a £1000 voucher, lol.
  19. Thanks Dantooine, there's a few of us on here with the same birthday, Stu as well, lol. Says it's clear tomorrow night though. I've definitely been spoilt this birthday. I'm always asked if I want my best presents for my birthday or Christmas. I always think that's unfair cus other people get the good presents on both, lol. I'll probably get soaps and socks for Christmas, lol.
