  1. It is very unlikely that the hand controller & the synscan adapter have both failed at the same time. Therefore I do not think another version of Synscan Pro would make any difference. Since they both plug into the same socket it is very likely that the socket is faulty. This socket has 2 pairs of wires. 1pair carries power to the HC or Wifi adapter. The other pair carries data. If the power wires are ok but the data wires have failed this would produce the effects you describe. The HC & the adapter would both be powered up but would be unable to communicate with the mount. "Device not found" "Both axis no response"
  2. In this case an emulator is a piece of software that "pretends" to be a telescope so that you can practice controlling a scope from your planetarium program without a real telescope being connected.
  3. Hi Edith. The fact that the Synscan adapter was broadcasting its SSID “SynScan_WiFi_####” shows that power is reaching the mount. But the adapter could not communicate with the control board "Device not found" This suggests a fault in either the socket that the handset or wifi plugs in to, or with the control board itself. Before checking the control board, is the mount still under guarantee from the supplier. If so could they check it for you?
  4. Have you read the following thread? it seems relevant. Regarding the 4 hour reset, try instructing your phone & computer to "forget" the SynScan_xxx " SSID. They may be polling the mount's Wifi preventing the 4 hour reset.
  5. So it looks like 6" to 8" is the optimum screen size. I think a 7" tablet will probably be cheaper than a big phone. Thanks for the good advice guys.
  6. I'm proposing to control my DIY Onstep GOTO via wifi from a phone or tablet using Sky Safari. What is the smallest screen size that you would recommend? 4", 5", 6" ? Or should I go for a larger Tablet & lose the "pocketability" of a phone. And since I'm a cheapskate, does SF pro have any scope control advantages over SF plus? (The bigger database is no use to me - light pollution) Thanks.
  7. Brilliant job Criske. I was lucky enough to visit the Johnson Space Center in Houston in the 80's. They had a Saturn V laid out horizontally with the stages seperated so you could see the internal workings. (Maybe they still do) Having been a kid in the Mercury/Gemini/Apollo era I thought I knew everything about the Saturn V but nothing prepares you for how ENORMOUS it actually is.
  8. "Buzz, what do you mean you had to go away on business for a few days? Well you better bring me back something nice"
  9. I suppose it must be an Apollo rocket nozzle, but which one? I guess that it is an Attitude Thruster nozzle from the Apollo 11 Lunar Lander that Buzz Aldrin brought back as a souvenir without telling anyone. ?
  10. First prototype of Apollo capsule but NASA contractor used millimetres instead of feet?
  11. Hi and welcome to SGL. This thread seems quite relevant.
  12. Here's one I made earlier.? Seat height is 10 to 36 inches. Based on this Sky at Night article. http://www.skyatnightmagazine.com/feature/how-guide/how-build-observing-chair
