the ETX 70 Holds 6 AA batteries = 9V, So either get a replacement battery holder from the Bay if unable to ressurect the old one. Other Idea is to use a buck Converter to go from 12 to 9V

we had it bad yesterday here a local church got hit and the lighning ripped slates off the spire and hit the bell in turn blew the automatic chime board off the wall and the consumer unit in the cupboard according to the local news 33k ground strikes yesterday

for the corrector plate not in your league but you get the understanding

I don't understand your obsession to clean the corrector plate I have a celestron c5 circa 90's only once have i cleared the dew and mess on the corrector plate and mine is lined with cork. and marks on the corrector mirror for refitting. Your Mak should be fine depends on how you store after a session as you say full of dust... Why?
