  1. Finally, managed to grab a few hours observing between cloud belts! Great to see some old friends again (M81 & 82, M42, M36, 37 &38, along with Venus, Mars and the moon!) :)

Only wish it could have lasted longer, but it was better than the zilch that I've had for the last two weeks! :(

sounds like you had a good night Gus, I had a few hours lastnight, seeing wasn't too bad, had a trip to the triple in leo then bagged a few more galaxys in virgo, then finished off with Jupiter, all in all not a bad night. hope you have more clear skys ,charl.

Yes, it was Charl. Amazing what just an hour or so of observing will do after what seems like an eternity of clouds! ;)

  2. British weather sucks! It's official! ;)

fantastic Gus ,I'm glad you like it, I think toget the most outa the sky a newt is a must, ive had quite a few over the years, my biggist was 24inch back in the 80s, but fantastic to view through it was a pain to transport, I retired it in the late 80s because of needing re silvering and I couldn't sell a kidney, ive still got the mirror and secondry and otheir bits in the loft. I look forward to hearing when you have a night of clear with good seeing.  charl.

Thanks Charl. I'm hoping there might be a little time tonight after sunset to view Venus, Mars and the moon with the new scope before those clouds supposedly pile back in. Nice and sunny here today in Hull, so going to have a look at the sun after my cup of tea. :)

    4. xtreemchaos

      xtreemchaos

the suns forsaken me here, thick cloud and rain, but the rigs all powered up just in case I get a clear patch. clear skys mate.  charl.

  4. Getting a second hand Skywatcher 200PDS scope next Wednesday when I go down to collect it. Does second hand equipment incurr a cloud penalty at all? Hehe! ;)

nice one Gus, you get 2 3rds cloud curse for secondhand stuff, and you can reduce it more by sleeping with one eye open the night before you get it :icon_biggrin:. your going to love the scope when you see the colour you get with newts. well done. charl.

  5. Was lazy last night before diner was ready (had limited time too) and viewed Venus through the double glazing in the dining room. Got a pretty good view too, and much warmer than outside! Hehe! ;)

  6. Good to get out again after a cold. Saw Tegmine & Eskimo nebula, among other targets in Auriga & Gemini. Nice session if chilly still! :)

  7. Darn it! Nice clear skies outside, and I'm full of cold! Grrrrrr......?

  12. Chilly night out there, but through intermittent clouds M42, M81 & M82 were very nice. Even nabbed the Eskimo nebula in Gemini despite the moon nearby. Now time to warm up & get some sleep! :)

  13. Had a quick look through the new Televue 10mm Delos I got off Marki last night. Even with the moon out and  clouds too it looks looks it will give great views! :)

  14. Sky wasn't great, but still managed to see Neptune pretty well by pushing the magnification up to 214x with the Powermate. :)

As Chaos said, try not to think about it, then when Friday arrives you'll be pleasantly surprised. But I think this is quite hard to keep off your mind...:happy11:

    4. Knighty2112

      Knighty2112

Yeah, was looking forward to having a first light with them tonight as the forcast is to be clear until around midnight, but Friday is not too long to wait. I'm busy with work on the next three days so wouldn't be able to use it fully intil Friday anyway. :)

  23. Looking good so far for clear skies tonight. Hope I don't get disappointed again when darkness falls! Fingers crossed for some meteor sightings, and a little observing too! :)

How many meteors did you see in total (11 and 12 August).

I saw max 30 in really dark skies. Weird, Everyone in Britain seems to be seeing 50-60 but here I can only see 15 a night.

    3. Knighty2112

      Knighty2112

That's everyone in Britain then except me! Lol! ;)

I'm in the states with urban skies (Bortle 5) and managed to see 20 over a period of two hours. I was in and out of the house a lot and probably missed some. Several were really bright with long trails!

  24. Can't wait till Monday (fingers crossed!) when my new refractor arrives. I'll be like a kid on Christmas morning! :)
