Just got back in giving my new scope, Celestron Goto mount & wifi Skyportal connection a good test out. All went well. Now back inside warming up, but most likely try Jupiter later on too. :)

just been looking at Jupiter, its a bit woberly with being so low, but it still looked nice with 4 of its moons showing.  charl.

  2. Looking good so far for clear skies tonight. Hope I don't get disappointed again when darkness falls! Fingers crossed for some meteor sightings, and a little observing too! :)

How many meteors did you see in total (11 and 12 August).

I saw max 30 in really dark skies. Weird, Everyone in Britain seems to be seeing 50-60 but here I can only see 15 a night.

    3. Knighty2112

      Knighty2112

That's everyone in Britain then except me! Lol! ;)

I'm in the states with urban skies (Bortle 5) and managed to see 20 over a period of two hours. I was in and out of the house a lot and probably missed some. Several were really bright with long trails!

  3. Looks like Saturday evening/night might be clear to do some observations of the heavens. Fingers crossed I can test out my new EP! :)

  4. Looks like some clear nights ahead for the next three nights, at least that's what's forcast for where I live anyway. Fingers crossed! :)

  5. Lunar V is starting to show, well before the X which should start approx 10:36p'm UK time.

  6. Lunar X coming up around 10:36pm UK tonight, so fingers crossed for my first viewing. May also see the V too, so here's hoping! ????

  7. Lunt wedge & an az4 mount nabbed off Shane & Jules for a late Christmas prezzy to oneself! Hehe! ;)

  8. Managed a quick smash and grab session for 20mins between clouds on Jupiter and the Moon with my grab n'go Porta mount and ST120 frac. Seeing was poor on Jupiter, but not too bad on the moon. :)

  9. Managed to bag a new planetary nebula last night, NGC7027, along with Neptune too, along with all the usual suspects too. Had a nice 2.5hrs under some clear sky from 11:00pm till finish at 1:30am. :)

Nice catches! Sounds like a more than satisfying "knight"!

  10. Managed to bag Venus just before I went behind houses, and Mercury too for the first time for ages. Pushed the mag a little, but could see the phase of Mercury very easily. Had a quick peek at Mars too! :)

It went behind houses, not I. ?

Haha, I was about to ask, what were you doing going behind houses. :hiding:Happy for your planetary delights; the planets always please.

      Thanks Reggie! :)

  11. Managed to catch a break in the clouds and see Vesta again. Nicely viewed with the help of Skysafari. Forcast pretty dire for the week ahead so may be the last time for a few days to track it again!

  12. Managed to see Venus with my bins for about 15mins last night after sunset, and also Jupiter with my 4SE Mak for about 30mins at just gone midnight last night too. Seeing was poor due to conditions and altitude, but nice to be able to see something through the cracks in the clouds! :)

Nice one, Gus. Sometimes it's nice to just see something when the weather isn't cooperating :)

      Knighty2112

Yep! Well over 10 days since with both work and weather I’ve managed to nab anything.

  13. Managed to snap Vesta in a widefield shot with my Canon bridge camera. Yes! :)

  14. My Astro mojo is on a high lately. Even cloudy weather is not damping it down! Hehe! ???

  15. My new Altair Astro 102mm f11 frac arrived back home today after going back for the new focuser refit. So now I just need those clear skies to test it out tonight on Saturn & Mars! :)

Grrrrr......no luck so far. Cloud obscuring any views. Looking better for tomorrow night according to FLO's 'Clear Outside' app at least, so fingers crossed for that! :)

  16. My ZWO ADC arrived today, so managed to test it out on Venus earlier on. Worked great from what I could see. Need to try it out on Jupiter and Mars for some more tests with it, but so far looking good! :)

Nice one. I'd never heard of these until recently. Were you using it visually or for imaging? Sounds like there's some improvement from them but not a miracle cure.

    3. Knighty2112

      Knighty2112

So far just visually. Didn’t have time really to try any imaging with it. I do plan to image Mars and Jupiter with it a soon a we get a break in the persistent cloud cover.

    4. Littleguy80

      Littleguy80

Cool. I’ll keep an eye out your reports on the ADC and your images too, of course :)

The cloud is terrible and it’s put me in a vicious circle. I buy new equipment, weather gets cloudy, I’m bored, I buy new equipment.... ;)

  17. New (to me) Heq5 Pro goto mount got first light out tonight. The 2 star alignment proved to work very well. Looking forward to good views with this mount! 😀

      Knighty2112

Thanks Charl. Looking to get the mount fitted with wifi so I can hopefully use Skysafari to control it. Fingers crossed! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Hi Charl. Had a very brief view of M13 last night. Sky conditions weren’t great, so M13 wasn’t showing its best. Forcast for tonight looks much better hopefully. From what I saw on the solar sunspots earlier on I know the views will be great. Already can see nice and sharp stars in the EP when looking around. 😀

    3. xtreemchaos

      xtreemchaos

thats good mate, i was impressed with my mates, i might get the ED myself at some point once it picks up after the plague 😀

its chucking it down here but think ive better weather tomorrow, wishing you clear . charl.

  21. Nice 2 hour session. Would have stayed out a little longer if it wasn’t too cold! Brrrrr........

  22. Nice couple of hours observing. Managed to track Vesta down once again. Now warming up with a cup of tea as it is pretty chilly out there! :)

  23. Nice Sunny day, with clear skies, so doing a little WL solar (small AR group on the sun), and checking Venus out too in the daylight with my C8 SCT on my goto mount! :)

      Knighty2112

BTW: the magnification with the 32mm EP in my C8 SCT is 63x.

    3. Red Dwarfer

      Red Dwarfer

Okay on the 63x - I tried earlier this afternoon but could not detect anything in an ST80 / ES8.8/82 that gave around 45x mag - the filter was bought for the ED80 but I use it on the ST80 as it is more compact , especially when used from indoors ... maybe a bigger filter for the ST120 might yield better results with the extra aperture ?

    4. Knighty2112

      Knighty2112

In theory the larger the aperture the more the detail seen, although I did get better results from my Omni 120mm ‘frac with my Lunt wedge fitted than the larger aperture on my C8 SCT that had a normal kind of solar filter (an Explore Scientific sun catcher filter for C8) over the front end of it.

  24. Nice to bag Mercury in the twilight, with Venus below it too again before they dipped below the houses nearby. :)

    1. orion25

      orion25

They make for a stunning pair in the twilight!

  25. Nice to see Mercury again. Managed to spot it in my binos the last evening, then through my ‘fracs this evening. :)

      orion25

Is it nice to see it again. Going for the Mercury/Venus conjunction tonight!
