Todays Sun (Just about found a gap in the clouds!). The extent of AR 3006, even in white light, is quite astonishing! I reckon it is about 1/4 of the diameter of the disk.

Todays Sun in not so good seeing but, luckily, just before the clouds rolled in for the rest of the day:

Last nights Moon. First a stack of 10 from 50 RAW images using my DSLR - (hence a coloured image) - The first time I have successfully managed to fully process RAW files! This image was taken during twilight. Then a mosaic of four panes taken with the ZWO ASI 120mm mono camera. Thirdly a huge mosaic of 25 panes ( 5500 x 3900 pixels and 37Mb in PNG format) taken with the same kit and a 2.5x Powermate. The two mosaics were taken through a IR cut filter. All images taken using the ED120APO. The Small Mosaic (click to enlarge): And the large Mosaic (cluck and click again to enlarge!)

I would strongly recommend making a two arm mount - it will be quicker, easier and overall use less material. To make a single arm version, even if you had a fully equipped engineering workshop, would be a difficult task to achieve. If you look at commercial mounts the single arm variety is restricted to the very smallest scopes only.

Today's Sun - quite hazy but i was concerned about incoming clouds - I may have a second attempt later.

Today's Sun through a few breaks in the cloud. Seeing was not particularly good! (and it looks like I captured a dust bunny too 🐰!!)

Just been out again to try and get a better image of AR3004. The seeing seemed a little better this afternoon although it was still hazy. usual set-up of ED120APO, 2.5x Powermate, ASI120mmand this time a green filter (not that it made much difference!!). processed in Autostakkert and PS CS5

Hi Steve! A lovely day and some lovely images 😀

Tonight's Moon taken during early twilight. Sorry about all the artifacts in the image but I've not used any of my equipment for nearly two years and it shows!! 😳 ED120 APO, ZWO120mm, 3 panes of 100 from 1000frames taken. Stacked in Autostakkert. Sharpened in Astra Image 3.0 and finished in photoshop CS5: Click to enlarge;

Cloud dodging today but finally found a gap to allow about 80 useable frames to be taken. ED120APO, Canon 1100D, Baader filter.

My first imaging for a long time!! (August 2020 was the previous one!). Nothing wrong - just life getting in the way. Today's Sun. ED120APO, Canon 1100D, ISO100, 1/3200sec, Close-ups taken with a ZWO ASi120MM and 2.5x Powermate. It took well over an hour to collect the data (90 DSLR frames and 3x 2000 frame videos) followed by over two hours of processing. I used to be able to do that all in less than half an hour!!! 🤪 just goes to show what being out of practice does - I couldn't even remember which order to use the processing software! 😟

What's the modern equivalent of the Canon EOS1000D?
Bizibilder replied to BrendanC's topic in Discussions - Cameras
To replace your 1000D the current model would be the 2000D (The 4000D really counts as a "special" as it is a stripped down version to achieve a low price point). Currently the 200D is £325 on "camerapricebuster" but can be found slightly cheaper from a couple of suppliers listed on that site but without prices (you will see what I mean if you go to the site). -
Bird, bat, Chinese lantern, Weather balloon, satellite?

Powertank with 6v DC output?
Bizibilder replied to Franklin's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
I use a 6v lead acid rechargeable battery for my EQ5 with basic drive motors. I think it is sold as a lantern battery. You need a 6v wall wart charger as well. Cheap and cheerful and does the job. I think mine is 4Ah (may be 5Ah) but it has never run out even on a full evenings use. -
Not too sure of your exact kit but if the screws are about 1/4 inch or 6mm diameter then the likelyhood is some are 1/4" BSF (1/4" diameter and 26 threads per inch), some 1/4" UNC (1/4" diameter and 20 threads per inch)and some M6 (which is 6mm diam and 1mm pitch). This problem stems from most people being metric but the UK and USA still holding onto the old imperial system. As you have found out they are not quite interchangeable 🤨 !!

A bit of a bodge today as my usual Canon 1100D cannot be recognised by my laptop! This Thread is the ongoing discussion. So I had to resort to my old, Astro modded, 1000D. At least I have a record of the Sun but I suspect I will have to raid the piggy bank soon for a new camera body.
