  4. This is hopefully a start of a joint project with Wim @wimvb, if it will clear up around Stockholm. The idea is that I will collect the wide-field IFN dust with my RASAs, which I now have done, and Wim is grabbing the finer details in the galaxy with his SW MN190 (yes, Coddington's nebula IC2574 is a galaxy!). Wim has started but needs the sky to clear - I have been more lucky lately here in western Sweden. So here is the result of 9+ hours from Tuesday night with my dual RASA8 rig and ASI2600MC (no filter). Processed in PI and PS with all the new XTerminator tricks. If you zoom in you can see that the RASA managed to collect quite a lot of galactic detail. Cheers, Göran

  6. Great image Olly! Hard to believe that the RASA is not diffraction limited. Seems that we can sometimes use almost every small pixel for resolution.
  7. This is a 2-panel mosaic from my dual-RASA8 rig of a very rarely imaged and faint IFN area. Apparently high interstellar winds are blowing there - I had to hold onto the key board when processing it🥴. The area is also densely packed with distant galaxies. MW-4 has been named the Animal Tracks Nebula. I cannot see any reason for it but I assume it may be from the impression of some early photographic plates lacking depth. RASA8 with ASI2600MC (no filter). 373 x 3 minutes. Processed in PI and PS, of course including all the XTerminator filters. Cheers, Göran
  8. The camera @ollypenriceis using (ASI2600MC) has a built in UV/IR filter.
  9. I just repeat from above: stunning, amazing and spectacular Dave! I expect it took quite some time and headaches to get it all together with that multimix of scopes and cameras.
  10. But it is there, I can see the bear paw! IC2233 also seems to be a task for a big aperture desert dweller.

  12. That is just great! An amazing telescope and I think the RASA has a slow start due to the bad reputation of the hyperstars. When I was brave enough to buy my first one (a used one for about 1200 GBP) three years ago, the first image I got blew me away.
  13. That is essentially what I did with my version of @Catanonia's image above although I use Curves rather than Levels when I blend in the stars. Not sure which is best. I guess I imagine I get more control of the star core/halo appearance using a curve.
  14. I do it in PS so I am not sure how you blend in a star layer in PI. But in short I use starXT (Starnet2 would work also) to separate the image into a starless layer and a star layer. Then I work on the starless layer to bring out as much nebulosity as possible. Then I add the stars back and blend them in using a curve to reduce their brightness (working with the shape of the curve to make it look good). Quite simple in PS but I never done it in PI (I only use PI for some specific actions and for stacking)
  15. That is an extraordinary image Olly, especially for all the IFN you caught in this area. Exciting structures. It would be interesting to know how far away that IFN is and, therefore, how big these structures are.
  16. I hope you do not mind that I took the liberty of using StarXT in PS on your image to see if the starfield could be suppressed more. It allowed me to boost the nebulosity and then bring back the stars at a much suppressed level using a curve on the star layer. It was a quick and dirty try and obviously it would be better to do this on a 16 or 32 bit version. Cheers, Göran
  17. Amazing piece of work Dave! Great overview of all the dust around in this region. The comet if of cause a bonus and a kind of unique time stamp.
  18. A lot of IFN around there indeed! I It reminded me of this image by Kees Scherer: https://www.astrobin.com/389783/ 132 hours and 15 panels with an Esprit 100. So you really saved some time with the SY135.

    Very impressive image Alan! I guessed that BlurXT had been involved but obviously it had great data to work with.
  20. You really captured a lot of the illusive blue reflection nebula, but then you hava a RASA of course! Have you considered trying Starnet2 or StarXT on the image to bring out more of the faint nebulosity without stretching the stars?
  21. Great detail Andy! I see you are using the excellent NBZ filter and wonder if you could bring out more of the red signal, by using a curve to stretch the red channel. I think there could be more Ha to be found in the data.
  22. Outstanding detail Dan! Clearly seeing is more important than transparency when it comes to small details in galaxies. This inverse relationship between seeing and transparency is often reported and I assume it has a good meteorological explanation.
