  1. Gentle approach using photoshop & gradient exterminator. All versions here might be better if you could upload your original TIFF.
  2. Now it looks like King Neptune from the SpongeBob movie...
  3. I won't jump for one - I may need to get one for work in which case I can justify a bit more RAM and a lot more HDD.
  4. Laptop may be the way to go, but I like the simplicity of not having to use a laptop with my current setup. Well I've got hold of a huge box made from 1" thick polystyrene and selected a pair of heatsinks/fans that aren't too heavy, but it may be a few weeks before I start as some other projects are crowding in.
  5. Great, spurs me on! I think I will make mine we a removable back so I can see the screen for focusing etc. How much does it weigh?
  6. You ALT/AZ folks shouldn't think using an EQ mount is a bed of roses. Here's what happens if last night's PA is 12 hours out: At least its a good demonstration as it shows the effect an error twice the distance from polaris to the true pole. Now I have to find out WHY my PA display is suddenly showing it this way.
  7. If you use the same flats, darks and bias frames and all the lights have the same exposure then you don't need to use groups. It will align lights that are significantly mis-aligned even from different nights. Groups just make sure that day 1's images are used with day 1's flats and so on.
  8. I would have thought an ordinary skylight or UV filter as used for 'taming the sky' with an ordinary lens would help with star bloat, I'm going to use one next time I use the 135mm lens to reduce the 'violet haloes' although the process out easily enough.
  9. I did a comparison using kappa sigma and adaptive average and the kappa sigma appeared to have least noise. I found leaving out darks made noise worse but 'your mileage may vary'.
  10. My latest batch of 130P-DS images are here:
  11. Live and learn! That's why I'm following this thread.
  12. I was thinking of going completely the other way and making a box out of polystrene.
  13. I shall watch this closely. I have similar bits and may use them for a cool box for my DSLR.
  14. All you need to do now is put a command module on top and paint USA on the side :-)
  15. Lacquer it and keep t shiny with little effort :-)
  16. Hello,

What sort of price are you looking for for the QH5Y?

    Is it mono or OSC?

    Thanks

    Neil

      K3ny0n

      It's Mono.

  17. Lol! I was just about to suggest buying a drainpipe and painting it white, then I read your post!
  18. My sky looks like the cloudy bits of your image (up to about 40-45 degrees) even when it isn't cloudy :-(
  19. Can I cope with two nights in a row - the curry earlier is lying very heavy in my tum :-)
  20. I should add last night's trophy to this thread
