  1. I have been reading through all the posts once again. Nice to see some new faces (so to speak), wishing to attend and booking up for the next Star Camp. The bad news as I am sure everyone is aware is that Covid is increasing in numbers ESPECIALLY in Scotland. So I am hoping that as we still have a way to go before this Autumn Star Camp commences, that the infection rates drop dramatically! I know Jim and Dawn are there at present, (think they got the dates mixed up) 🤣 Looking forwards to seeing everyone there. ( Happy now Jim ? I've posted something at last just for you 🙂 )
  2. Winge, Winge.........🤣 We're gonna miss you there. Busy at home. Had new roof ( still busy in roof space ) and awaiting tree surgeons to cut down 35/40 footer I planted 20 + years ago. Most expensive tree ever !!!!
  3. It is possible that the battery cannot supply enough current at the mount at 12.4 volts so the voltage drop internally on the mount. When you boost the voltage to 13.5 volts it may be the power supply can supply a greater current so the voltage does not drop as much. It is the wattage that counts in the end. i.e. Total power ( wattage ) is the voltage times the current. The wiring CSA and length, has a big effect on the power transmission.
  4. Hello d-s-m, the above advice is seconded. I spent an awful lot of time reading up no what I wanted to do when I first started out in astronomy. I still got it wrong at first, errr 3 telescopes later........ So advice is when you think you know what you want, Start all over again but from a slightly different perspective. re-read your notes and think "is there anything I missed?" I would especially, say get in touch with a club if you can in your area if mat all possible. Talk to as many people as you can and see if they will show you what they do and how they do it. There is no better way to learn how to do it and what the pitfalls are than other peoples experiences. It is slower, but cheaper in the long run. It may also stop you from becoming so despondent that you give it all up before you actually know enough about what you really like.
  5. Sorry to say this but, once polar aligned there is virtually no chance that you would still be aligned correctly if you lower/move the mount afterwards.
  6. In Bonnie Scotland ????????????? Shame on you..🤣
  7. Glad you got it sorted. Our Star Camp is small but sort after. Places are usually snapped up in short order. See you there 😀 AND There's enough grass.........................
  8. Hi. you phone or email the campsite. Contact Lesley Shell at Drumroamin directly. Do not try to book on line as the site will say fully booked as it is reserved for the Star Camp. The addresses are on the web. But you may well be too late now as I think the Star Camp may actually be fully booked by now. I would get in touch asap to find out. Best of luck.
  9. Just about to leave the area for home and the weather is changing. Wind dropping and sun coming out !!!!! Some reasonably clear nights but the wind has been very high. So I am so glad we had several good clear nights at the Spring Star Camp. So fingers crossed for this Autumn Star Camp. Regards to All,
  10. Just found the ideal tent that would have saved Damian from selling his car and buying a van. Only £1600 after a deduction of £200 at the till. Way to go COSTCO 😁
  11. Been sampling both. Anyway only reason for the (e) was done in the early 1900s to try to distinguish the Irish from Scottish "Water of Life" 😃
  12. All jokes aside! We were so lucky in the weather during the Star Camp. Since the end of the camp the weather has been either windy, wet or both, with very little or no good clear skies at all. I am still in the area visiting friends and at present it is chucking it down. We have had some quite stormy days and nights in the last week. Last night was clear but windy! Thank the sky demons for WHISKEY 😂
  13. HuMmmmmmmmm............... (And yes we know everything 🤣) Just found Damian's GoTo reference book. Methinks it skipped the section on SWITCHES ! Just think about 7 months of fun to go 🤣
  14. Maybe mañana, I did warn you all that I'm not that interested in processing. 🤣 I the expression "when pigs fly" says it all ! Just cause I can, (possibly) doesn't mean I will. 🙂
  15. It was nice to meet up with both you and Stu. Really nice shots and glad you enjoyed the time at the camp. See you both hopefully at the autumn Star Camp.
  16. Already posted this on the Spring Star Party thread. 🤣 You youngsters always think yers know everything Humph !
  17. As Damian has said, was a nice Star Camp. Thanks to our hosts Lesley and Ralph for ensuring our stay and as usual all the effort they put into seeing that we are not disturbed by the general public. They also go to great lengths to ensure all lights are either shaded or blanked out. All together 5 nights of views for either visual or camera work. It was very nice to see old and new faces. I talked with Lesley and we now have 21 booked pitches for the Autumn Star Camp. So only 4 left. Anyway as I said before I have allowed as much pre-warning about dates as I can and the dates are SET in STONE. I look forwards to seeing you all in 6/7 months again. Stay Safe,
  18. As Damian has said been a really good Star Camp with so very clear nights. Obviously very tiring for some of us as can be seen below. DOB Mob needing a rest!
  19. Well not too bad a night. That is appart from Win10 deciding to update even after I stopped it for 28 days !!! That caused all sorts of problems, including the computer refusing to boot for over 2 hours. Then just to comound it, it corrupted my mount computers positioning for polar alignment. Eventually I started getting some subs of the Rosette. Others were struggling with learning Sharcap and broken Telrads. One (not to be named) accidentally dropped his finder scope and broke the end off! AHH, the joys of astronomy ! Well, still tomorrow night to see what fun can be had 😈
  20. Nooooooooo.......More like certain twerps walking all over the wires in hobnail clogs.🤬
  21. Humpf!! As one "not to named still learning very old school so called electrical engineer", who is too tight to even buy decent switches gets things wrong 😈 then wonders why his gear is not functioning ..... just said "Very strange for a Lindy cable to fail". 🤣 But on a more upbeat note weather set to be decent tonight and even better tomorrow.
  22. Cheap components, shame on an electrical engineer 😉
