  1. Hi Peter, Sorry to hear your woes. As others have said hope nothing damaged. The wet can cause so much trouble when in the wrong place! 😑 I lost quite a few tiles off the house roof here in South Tyneside. Spent a good while yesterday making a couple of temporary covers for the inside in the loft, to stop the wind and rain causing internal ceiling damage. Just trying as I expect many others are to get a roofer to do the repairs as it is far to high to get at easily. πŸ€”
  2. Hi everyone. As usual I am announcing the dates as soon as practical so that people who need to give employers very early dates for holidays can do so. So once again I have the pleasure of announcing the dates for :- Scotland's Premier Star Camp during the Autumn of 2023 (November). The Star Camp will be held at Drumroamin Camp Site as usual. (1 South Balfern, Kirkinner, Newton Stewart, Dumfries and Galloway,DG8 9DB.) Between the Friday 10th and Thursday the 16th November 2023. (The New Moon is on Monday the 13th November) These dates still and will always contain a weekend so hopefully most can attend if at work during the week days. Moon Phases for November 2023, Target: 13/11/2023 09:28:45 Phase Name: New Moon Percent of Full: 0% Age: 100% (0 days 0 hrs 0 mins) Azimuth: 144Β° 29' 44" Altitude: 8Β° 30' 36" Rise: 08:00 at 126Β° Set: 15:56 at 231Β° Next New: 12/12/2023 23:33 [29.6 days] Next FQ: 20/11/2023 10:51 [7.1 days] Next Full: 27/11/2023 09:17 [14 days] Next LQ: 5/12/2023 05:50 [21.8 days] Again the important detail here is the time that the Moon sets and rises. This means that observers and imagers are still able to view/image some days before and after the New Moon without moonlight pollution affecting them. As always those wishing to attend a day or so early and/or stay longer can request this with Lesley at the time of booking! Hope to see you all there. Best wishes

  4. Trust a woman to think like that !!! Just not like us men at all πŸ˜‚ Brings to mind Mae West when interviewing some actors. Mae... How tall are you cowboy? Cowboy... Well mam, I am 6ft 6" Mae... Well let's forget The 6ft and talk about the 6"!!!!
  5. A large bunch of flowers and a card were sent to Lesley from us all. She receivef them tonight and seemed pleased 😊
  6. Had to answer this one as there is not a icon for Boll#@%s
  7. The more people who let us know if they are clear the better. It is a worry at present. Annette and I have just had a PCR test each and awaiting the results hopefully by tomorrow morning some time.
  8. The weather was nothing to what we have had in the past. This is the reason I keep on banging on about taking proper wet weather gear and a heavy duty tent and proper ground anchors! Plenty of tents last seen dissapearing into the far reaches........ 😟 There are usually people around willing to help in bad weather. BUT YOU NEED to be PREPARED!!!!!!!!! It is not just you it is also your astro gear that needs protection. I have had two telescope covers that leaked all over my electronics on the scopes. Now I use double covers !!
  9. It is my unfortunate task to inform all attendees at the recent Autumn 2021 Scotish Star party that 3 persons so far have been found to have contracted Covid -19. Please self isolate and test as soon as possible. The personnal details of all who attended will be passed on to Track and Trace Scotland as is required by Law. So I would expect a call or ping from the Application within a day or two. How ever you are contacted please treat it seriously. If for some reason you are not contacted, please please use common sense test and retest for the 10 days after you left the camp. I tested on Sunday and again this morning (Tuesday) and am so far clear but I am isolating and retesting even so. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Regards
  10. Please Read below carefully and note this is no fun for me to have to post this. This affects everyone wishing to attend future Scottish Star Party Events Unfortunately during the Scottish Autumn Star Camp 2021, once again there have been a few " No Shows" Thoughtless actions such as this with no warning has caused a few furrowed brows as our hosts have lost revenue. These "No Warning and No Shows" prevent the pitches being realocated in time to those waiting on the "Standby List". It costs very little to use the telephone and at least inform our hosts when not being able to attend the Star Camp, for any reason. This is not the first time and it has now happened so frequently over the last few years that : The owners Lesle yand Ralph, have decided that from now on there will be an up front Β£25 deposit payable for your pitch to be reserved. Anyone who reserves a pitch, can cancel up to 30 days before the start of the reservation. Cancellation within 30 days of the start of the Star Party the deposit is non refundable. This decission has not been taken lightly and is unfortunately a last resort measure, short of completely stopping all future Star Party events with exclusive access to SGL members. So please think of others, if you cannot attend for any reason telephone or email Lesley to let her know as soon as possible.

  13. I'm not in control of it. Far too technical for me. That's the wife's department, so take it up with her. 🀣
  14. Well as this Autumn Scottish Galloway Star Camp comes to an end, after a few days of windy and somewhat wet weather, the sun is making an attempt to poke through the clouds at last. The wind is dropping off and we are packing up to leave. I want to thank all those who have attended and hopefully enjoyed another good, if not spectacular at times, Star Camp. Unfortunately once again there have been a few " No Shows", and this without any warning has caused a few furrowed brows as revenue is lost. It prevents others from attending and fulfilling their dreams. It costs very little to use the telephone and at least inform our hosts of not being able to attend. Anyone who reserves a pitch can cancel up to 30 days before the start of the reservation. After that the deposit is non refundable. Finally. I wish to pass on my unreserved thanks to Lesley and Ralph our hosts, for making the Scottish Star Camps possible. Without their support and efforts in closing the site to the general public this would not have been possible. My best wishes to all for the festive season and looking forwards to the Spring Star camp.
  15. Well the weather has changed as predicted and cloud/wind and rain set in. So last night we managed to sink a few drams whilst chatting in the warm room. The night ended with a quiz which was quite entertaining. This morning we awoke to blustery winds 25/50 mph and rain. One of our members tents was in danger of blowing away. So I parked my car in front to try to mitigate the worst of the wind. I will put a strong note on the other Galloway Star Party threads to try and warn attendees that only strong tents (not flimsy summer types) should be brought and erected here due to the open nature of the camp site. You also will need a mallet and heavy steel rock type pegs. No one wants to see anyone lose their tent or belongings/astro gear due to not being properly prepared.
  16. Just a short note for all. I now have talked with Lesley the site owner and we have confirmed the dates for the Spring and Autumn 2023 Star Camps. The dates and relevant information will be posted up here on SGL in the next 2 weeks. Although the weather last night was not too kind, this Star Camp has seen a good attendance and during previous two nights there was viewings/imaging taking place. We also had an unexpected brilliant showing of the Aurora, on three separate occasions in one night. The weather has now turned for the worse unfortunately, but the warm room still invites for cracking social gatherings over the next couple of nights with of course with the usual refreshments and banter.πŸ₯ƒπŸ₯ƒπŸ₯ƒπŸ₯ƒπŸ₯ƒπŸ₯ƒπŸ₯ƒπŸ₯ƒπŸ₯ƒπŸ₯ƒ Finally. I must say Mike's absense has been duly noted by many with some dissmayπŸ™. His warm friendly/welcoming presence has been missed by everyone who knows him.

  18. Yes all being well see you tomorrow afternoon. Absolutely hammered down this morning. We were lucky we did not come up on Saturday as we had a really bad leak from our front bedroom window. Carpet soaked as it was. Needed flushing out of the drain window holes. Would have returned home to a disaster!!!
  19. Hi guys, still hoping to get there on Monday. Jim, hope you get some clear skies. I am a we bit jealous to say the least.
