It certainly stands out......but in truth, I am not so sure you needed to spend that amount of time on it.

Did I mention that I have been under lots of cloud for the past week or more? Did I mention that it looks like cloudy weather will continue for another week - or more? What to do! Pulled out some data from last year and started working on it again - with some new processing ideas. Just a test - that I think worked out OK. (I do hope you can view this on a larger screen). This was 16 hours total Ha, SII & OIII data with FSQ 130ED and FLI ML16200 camera.....January 2020.
(For Info: This is not exactly an SHO image; I generally mix them in some proportion other than 1:1:1 to RGB. I also used Topaz DeNoise - but only in the Ha channel and at that, only on a clone of the Ha which was mixed back in with the original Ha. i.e. the process is very light handed overall. The rest of the processing was pretty much as normal in PixInsight. The data was good - so easy to process).

Amazing!
Thank you Adam. I was not too sure about the end result here....but it is not one of the easier targets....so I suppose I should be happy that I got what I did. 😏

I just love those Abell targets.
Thanks Robin....yes, some of those Abell targets are hard though....but worth the effort.

For me- this was a hard one....so I am not sure how it will go down. I tried it in January and gave up (even though I obviously kept the data). Again now, very recently, I went back to it until the weather (humidity mostly) has put a stop to any imaging once again. Last night though, I actually combined the Jan & Feb data - even though the imaging scale and the camera rotation had both changed considerably. APP did a fantastic job...bringing everything together ..... and then with quite a crop....I came up with a result. (Total time: 23½ hours). Rogelio just had another batch printed and at the end of last week, he dispatched a big number....worldwide. If you are on FaceBook - he has a page there with updated info: https://www.facebook.com/groups/masteringpixinsight

I'm enjoying learning things again.
I have been lucky in that I can continue to image the night sky from my back garden......and I am learning something every day 🙂

Tremendous image! I've seen this target overprocessed many times but this is just perfect to me
Thanks for such kind words.......but I understand completely what you say about some images being overprocessed. To my mind that happens way too often 'out there'........

I can see why you had that owo moment!
It is just one of those nebulas - mostly OIII which gives it a lovely colour base (even in false colour NB images). A nice change away from the "Reds".

at least once a day where there's something that leaves me mouth agape.
What a fantastic hobby....isn't it? We are forever being left in awe.....and forever trying to improve our own efforts at capturing the "heavens".

I wondered why we don’t see more of it but I guess it’s isn’t possible from the UK
No - not visible from most of Europe.....here in SE Spain, I just about got it. 😏

Lovely image - wonderful clarity
Thanks - appreciate that. I would love to mix in RGB stars.....perhaps that will be the next step!

This is a target I first saw last year, and , well, just fell in love with it. I never thought I could ever get it other than through a paid subscrition to some set up high in the Andes somewhere. At the end of January though, I was delighted to find out I could just about do it from my back yard in SE Spain....if I was prepared to go 'low'.
Working at under 28° altitude (as and when possible over the last two weeks) I am delighted to have got this target . (I may yet try improve on it - but that wont be a big change and it won't be anytime soon).

I agree with Carole, great to see the lesser imaged part of 396.
Indeed.....I actually reworked both halves of this nebula (as separate images) but only put this one up here as it is not viewed all that often. (If interested in higher resolution - both the images are up on my web site @ https://www.kinchastro.com/ic-1396-with-elephant-trunk-nebula.html)

Very nice, it is also nice to see this side of the Nebula rather than the more famous Trunk.
Indeed Carole.....in fact when I actually got the data last year, I think it was the Elephant Trunk that I pushed as the main crop from the data........silly really as this area is also very interesting. I can see a frog (perhaps the most obvious) and what might be a Llama in the lower right ??? 🤔

I love those dark areas in IC 1396
Me too.....like I said in another post - looks like this week I will have plenty of time to play with old data.....and hopefully improve previous images.

well worth continuing on this one
Thanks Richard.......I hope I can but the weather is just wall to wall cloud these days. I have also another one started that I really need to finish before I lose it.......but looks like this week will just be playing with old data 🙄

Thanks for that - in general, that is how I like to see astro-images myself. (I am not keen on "loud" colours).
