  1. Yes just release the camera tripod ball head put the same star back at the edge of the FOV on the computer screen. every 30 secs then again 30sec later for about 5 mins.
  2. I think the problem is its - 33 degrees and one of your eyeballs has frozen.
  3. Not NINA which is good and I use but its dependant on PHD2 free, ASTAP free, ASCOM free, SKYMAPS free and just points and shoots. You can write scripts in ASTAP or ASTROART to do the same thing. I contribute elsewhere and buy outright I've owned ASTROART since version 3 for example.
  4. There are software options for this installing another loopback adapter (not the default one on every machine) or installing a virtual switch. But as mentioned its layers of complexity. All these hardware boxes that get bought are in effect doing what can already be done in software. Network engineers get paid well for a reason.
  5. Its OK to repeat yourself. As long as people understand they dont have to fabricate a cable to have a HOTSPOT just a compatible wifi device that supports a hostednetwork.

Maybe I'm not helping but so we can appreciate that with so many things to consider, its easy to see why there are lots of different experiences with this and why some might say it doesn't work and some do. Connecting networks together can cause serious problems for companies and individuals so Microsoft doesn't actually remove functionality they just don't make it easy for people that are less technically aware to get at. HOTSPOT (HOSTEDNETWORK) and CONNECTION SHARING (BRIDGE actually routing) are two separate and independent things. I created a HOSTEDNETWORK by typing at a command prompt and windows automatically picked a suitable Wi-Fi device that supports a HOSTEDNETWORK see earlier post . The Wi-Fi device it selects might be the one you use to connect to the internet so you'll loose that connection. netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=stargazers key="loungers" keyUsage=persistent and started it netsh wlan hostednetwork start I connected my phone to this HOTSPOT "stargazers" you can see its connected at the bottom of the output Number of clients: netsh wlan show hostednetwork Hosted network settings ----------------------- Mode : Allowed SSID name : "stargazers" Max number of clients : 100 Authentication : WPA2-Personal Cipher : CCMP Hosted network status --------------------- Status : Started BSSID : 74:da:38:56:0b:5c Radio type : 802.11n Channel : 10 Number of clients : 1 ca:27:88:9b:ad:69 Authenticated CONNECTION SHARING CONNECTION SHARING is optional for a HOSTEDNETWORK. In the control panel go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections (you can copy and paste this text into file explorer and it will take you there) Then right click on the device (note the stargazers name I gave it) select "STATUS" Pick PROPERTIES bottom left then on the second dialogue "Allow other....." option to turn it on. KEEPING THE HOSTEDNETWORK AVAILABLE When you right click on the device (again note the stargazers) pick the PROPERTIES on the menu On the pop up dialogue top right pick "configure" then power management tab clear the "Allow the computer to turn off this device" Also if your using a USB adapter then check in power settings Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power "Change advanced power settings" that USB suspend settings is disabled for the USB device. (ROUTING) if your curious to see what routing is take the RED PILL and type "ROUTE PRINT" at a command prompt. This is how connection sharing is actually works is configured, changed etc. if you got this far you should have seen enough to make it work. If its too complicated buy a box with an on off switch that will do it for you. Life's to short to be messing with this stuff when you could be looking at the stars. Regards.

  8. Pinched optics can vary from scope to scope depending on how tight the retaining rings are torqued, theres no reason to assume this is not the case for a camera lens. Do they use a torque wrench? Who knows.

  10. This is really the point when something does what its supposed and is trouble free time after time then it's value is disproportionate to its actual cost.
  11. Rainbow get their gearboxes from Harmonic Drive a German company with an industrial reputation. It says on the ZWO site their strain wave gearboxes are jointly developed with a local supplier. Sounds like a synta clone of a vixen mount all over again.
  12. You make a good point but Chinese stuff is not king. For example. ZWO 10 years and cameras means nothing, SBIG have been around for more than 25 years. I owned a SBIG 2000XM some fifteen years ago (about when I sold it) and the quality even back then was a different class to what typically comes out of China now. There are exceptions and quality products are coming from China of course but they typically are not the cheapest option. Sadly the case with the whole market.
  13. A bit if fantasy league astronomy. It seems to me that these mounts have all the complexity in the drive and controller which are practically off the shelf components once you know where to source them. What would you think of Rowan Astronomy looking into adding a harmonic drive mount to their line up?
  14. Happy Christmas! I suspect every tom dick and harry will come out with one of these mounts . The reason being you can buy the drive and build the housing. Every other mount has a lot of parts that need to be manafactured assembled and setup. In some respects I could buy a harmonic drive and make my own housing the problem is coupling the drive to a tripod and coupling a scope to the end of the drive. In fact if Rowan are reading this then it might be something relatively easy to achieve. Probably at least as easy as a motorised AZ100 after all companies with no experience with mounts are starting to turn them out! Dear Santa, next Christmas I want a Rowan harmonic mount. I promise to be good.
  15. I have never owned but always admired this refractor not just for the optics but the mechanics as well. Its a design classic, looks fantastic. Never thought I would see one caught with its pants down though.
  16. This makes sence to me but add a counter weight and its another GEM with a 20kg capacity for which there is competition with better tracking.

The thing I dont like about these mounts is the center of gravity COG is basically the telescope acting as a lever on the whole mount rather than over the RA axis of an GEM or over middle of the tripod on a CEM. I just feel its a design looking for a gap in the market that doesn't exist. I could be wrong, but I've worked with structural and mechanical engineering all my life and I just see pitfalls with these mounts.
  18. Took me three minutes to see the mount in the picture even with the ring around it. This is because it took me three minutes to stop staring at that clear sky.
  19. It arrived yesterday and I got a chance to use it last night. Clear skies! Easy to install and the first alignment quirky as normal but after that and plate solving in NINA and syncing it went from three attempts to two then one on the gotos after four targets. The motors are smooth responsive the belts help, quiet maybe a high pitched whine. The tracking seems good but it can only be as good as my thirteen year old EQ5. Alexander at Astro Gadget did an excellent job on postage and packing.

  22. With respect to the location or the UV/IR filter I did get reflections with the IR/UV filter behind a Baader skyglow filter in doors with room lights but not when I put them the other way around. It was odd. My Baader sky glow is an old filter which I am sure doesn't have IR/UV on it. Never really bothered to figure it out once it went away.
  23. Odd that. but there are differences in the red filter I think on the later chips they are all basically transparent at 800nm. From QHY's web site for the QHY268M with the IMX571. A different presentation but shown none the less
  24. Comparing the two charts its not possible to say given the first does not go past 700nm. There must be a better chart than this about for the IMX571.
