BYEOS Help Needed

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I am new to BYEOS and last night i tried the Planetary imaging mode on Jupiter, i was in live view mode and Jupiter was in the middle of the cross hairs in the Zoom box, i focused it the best i could but it still looked like a big white blob, so i carried on and pressed the record button and captured 1000 frames.

I then opened up Registax and stacked all the frames but at the end of the stacking process it still looked like a big white blob, can any one tell me what i am doing wrong  :BangHead:  or what setting i should be using.

Many Thanks

A Bahtinov mask is THE best method of manual focus. This explains it well: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bahtinov_mask I couldn't take a focused DSO image without one! I don't use it for planetary stuff though, that I do with eye, remembering to put my glasses on before trying!

As Psychobilly says, sounds like a lack of exposure tweaking that gave you a white Jovian blob! It's good to plug in the camera with a regular lens on and fiddle about with it attached to BYEOS during the day and see what the controls do. Makes night time operations much easier!

In BYE you can change the exposure in frame and focus to see what works then when you switch to planetary imaging your settings will be transferred. In the bottom right corner you will see that you can change the ISO and exposure settings from drop down selections. In the image below under FWHM 12.2.

Hi, Guylain here, creator of BYE.

This looks to me like over exposed.  When you do planetary make absolutely sure you are NOT in BULB mode.  Exposure simulation is disabled in BULB mode.  Instead make sure you use a TV value and make sure not to over expose.

Regards,

Guylain
