Lowest viewing angle

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Complete noob here but looking to get my first telescope as we've just moved and have more room now it's something I've always wanted. Our garden is south facing so I presume I'll get to view things for longer while they move east to west ? but there's a house at the bottom of our garden and a tree bottom right will these block anything ?

Here's a link showing a picture from the back of our house. Would the house and tree obstruct anything, what's the minimum angle you can view things from anyway ?

Thanks.

From my own site I have a decent north, east and south view. The west is interrupted by a near by hill. Never the less I find in my case, in the suburbs of town, that anything below an angle of 30°, as measured from the horizon, tends to be troubled by poor atmospheric conditions. As a consequence I tend to avoid observing in that region unless I really must. There are also certain sweet spots where I know I will get good seeing much of the time and certain spots that are not so sweet, due to cowardly neighbour's, who insist on using their central heating when the temperature drops to minus twelve.
