Kelling Heath - Spring 2011 - pictures

Cheers Adrian

sorry, didn't mean to cause offence, I wasnt really suggesting the events were actively competing, hence the smiley :-)

And yep, you may be right about the moon... I guess it depends how it falls year to year....

As you say, fingers crossed they all grow... I for one will be at both next year if they don't clash.

I don't think the events are in competition and I am sure they are not short of takers so I have to disagree with your TV scheduling analogy.

As one of the group involved in organsing the Spring Kelling Sky Camp there are lot of factors to consider in the timing of the event.

In particular avoiding the moon. Again I would have to disagree with you about the impact of the moon. Many of the visual observers attending the event are hoping to hunt out the faint objects they can't see from home.

I am not involved in the SGL events but I am certain that the SGL team that arrange the star parties put a lot of time effort into scheduling and planning . Respect to them, because I know from Kelling there is a vast amount of work to run a successful Star Party.

It is unfortunate that they some times clash.

As I said in another thread I just think it is excellent that we in the UK now have such a range of excellent events around the country to attend. Lets hope they all go from strength to strength!

They shouldn't clash next year (we're planning for March and Kelling is April). Its a tough call between the March and April new moons, temperature and hours of darkness play a big part.

An excellent write up and some great photos. It was a great Kelling in spite of the winds. Like you I got some good observing and some pleasant socialising in too. Roll on the Autumn Kelling
