Free planning software?

Does anyone know where I can get any free software to tell me what will be visible in my skies, give me a list of objects in order of magnitude, allow me to explore databases of objects, etc...?

Astroplanner is shareware. If you don't pay then you get nag screens occasionally.

There are some great apps for phones (android or iPhone) and iPad. In fact one of our forum members has written one of the apps on Android.

I use a Mac, and there are a couple of good apps - stellarium is one. The app I use most on iPad is goskywatch, which I think is great (I use the free version).
