stampy10000
At the start of the new year I bought a pair of Celestron 15x70's which I used alongside my 12" dob. I found myself using the binoculars more though, purely down to ease of use. After recently splitting with the ex, I thought some retail therapy was in order so I ordered a a pair of Revelation 20x100's!Had the first use of them last night, very impressed for the money. I managed Andromeda, but spent most of the time just scanning the stars, they certainly suck in more light than the Celestrons (which I think are great!).Looking forward to the properly dark nights so I can fully exploit the bigguns, and find M42 again!Cheers!PS if anyone else has a pair, do the switchable filter make much difference? Didn't notice much last night.
argonaut
Congratulations on the new bins. I've not looked through this binocular before. I have tried light pollution filters in my 100mm but found them wanting. Didn't seem to make much difference at all. This is from my light polluted back yard. Perhaps from a dark site they may make a difference.
stampy10000
I was at a reasonably dark site, my mates farm. The glow from Luton was behind us, but where we were looking was dark. My trusty ancient heavy duty tripod handled them well!
argonaut
Great grab & go set up. That tripod looks nice and meaty.I would certainly be interested to hear what you think of the filters.
stampy10000
It's just about grab and go!the whole lot is about 15kg I suppose, much less than the 12" OO dob though.I'll let you know when I've tried them properly.

LukeSkywatcher
I suppose 15Kg is "grab n go" for some. My 20X90's + Horizon 8115 tripod weigh in at about 7Kg. That tripod does look very meaty. Looks more like a portable lighting rig.LOL
stampy10000
The tripod is about 30 years old and was designed to hold a high speed video camera for military trials. It can take a lot of weight!
