I've been thinking about these scopes, basically they're a tubeless newt and the problem that you can see happening is dew. If some of the more technical among you were to build one of these, could the dew problem not be cured by attaching the element from a heated car mirror to the back of the primary ? I know that in a tubed newt this would cause air current distortion in the tube but because of the tubeless design, any hot air would rise vertically from the mirror and so shouldnt cause distortion to the view. The element should run happily from a 12 volt power supply. I wait to be shot down in flames

Great looking scopes. Not sure how resilient the optics are though or how you would dew shield them

It's called a Dall-Kirkham design. Primary is an ellipsoid with a spherical seconday. Here's a link:

I've never seen one in action, but had some great views from an 8" Newtonian-on-a-stick that looked similar.

Heater on the back of a primary is a bad idea - 's why dobs have fans, stops the primary distorting.

This is similar to the Newtonian camera that Geppetto designed, eh? The secondary mirror holder is what I was suggesting for the camera, though, Phil.
