Once I've set the HEQ5 Sysnscan Pro up and it's tracking an object can I disconnect the handset?

I know the simple answer is to give it a go but just wondered if someone already knew since I suspect the answer will be the crunch of grinding gears!!!

Not reccomended .... do it often enough & the I/O buffers will be damaged.

Why would you want to do that anyway?

I've pulled a cable by accident, the gears don't grind to halt and (IIRC!!!!) the mount keeps tracking.

I want to go out and set the mount up on the patio using the handset and a 1m cable and then go back into the conservatory with it on a 10m cable. What happens when I switch from the 1m to 10m cable?

My guess would be that mount will be keep tracking after you disconnect the 1m lead but it will stop tracking when you connect the 10m until you set up the mount from the handset again.

Just use the 10M cable in the first place and don't trip on it lol

I had thought of just using the 10m cable but the aim is to lay this underground (with power and USB) when I finish my pier.

I have accidently pulled the cable out, the scope carried on tracking, but when i pluged the cable back in It was unresponsive... I had to start from scratch and align again... not fun

Um, sounds like a 20m lead then!

Ahh I see - well - if it's a permenant pier installation then I would imagine you only need to get it polar aligned once, then switch off, reconnect, then switch on again all ready and controllable from the pc or handset indoors. I wouldn't leave it running whilst switching cables though - you'll loose the polar alignment otherwise, and risk blowing the handset or motors. Restarting from a known polar aligned position you should be able to move directly to an object then refine the alignment

Park the scope before switching off & you don't need to redo the alignment - just plug everything in, switch on & start finding objects.
