Solar Activity 06 May

Dull weather cleared to sunshine late in the afternoon. The CaK disk shows lots of activity scattered about the disk:

1517 UT. Coronado PST CaK, prime focus, DMK41

but the complex active area 11069 near the north west limb dominates the scene:

1606 UT. WO FLT 110, x2 barlow, Lunt B1200 CaK diagonal, DMK21

1600 UT. WO FLT 110, x2 barlow, Lunt solar wedge, Baader solar continuum filter, DMK21

The hydrogoen alpha view also shows active regions 11067 & 11070:

1539 UT. Solarscope 60, x2 barlow, DMK21 (2 frame mosaic)

There were also pores visible in white light in active region 11068 near the east limb, though the CaK view is clearer:

1608 UT. WO FLT 110, x2 barlow, Lunt B1200 CaK diagonal, DMK21

AR 11068 also appeared bright in Ha, maybe a minor flare in progress:

1542 UT. Solarscope 60, x2 barlow, DMK21

Notable prominences were seen at the NNE limb

SW limb - a beautiful "tree"

SSW limb - the "spiky" appearance suggests eruptive activity

1551 UT. Solarscope 60, x2 barlow, DMK21

and the ESE limb, where there was a prominence with a hole drilled through it!

Transparency very good between drifting cloud. Seeing moderate to poor, small amplitude but very rapid boiling motion. Temp 11C, wind NE force 3-4.
