There is no atmosphere to cause a trail to form behind the comet along its path so all particles would continue to move at the same speed as the comet.

The dust of the comet is blown directly away from the sun by the solar wind hence the direction of the tail.

Further the second tail - the ion tail - will also be affected by magnetic effects deflecting slightly differently - something which some high grade photographs will show.
