Rookie error - whole night out of focus

Spent a good four hours imaging M101, only to discover the focus was way off. I've a printed out Bahtinov mask here waiting to be dissected with a scalpel, so no more mishaps after that! Bit of a bummer though as the out of focus version I quickly processed in PS looked not too bad for me.

Well live and learn, I'm sure I'm not the only one whos don't something silly!

Shame mate, I always check the 1st image now at a shorter sub length after making this mistake.

On the plus side, everything looks good, would be great one you get the focus right. Nice image otherwise.

Don't do my fav trick and leave the mask on

last year I did manage a run of 10 x 600 with the mask on

but it did remind me to check the focus every hour or so as it can change with temp (thats if I'm awake )

That's a shame, it's got the makings of a great image too... I think we've all done something like that from time to time...

Make sure you remember to take the mask off after focusing.. I have left it on twice once for 4 hours worth of subs... and again recently but luckily only for the first one...

Cheers guys, I spent extra time last night focusing by eye again. I was paranoid about it being wrong again. Here is a single sub cropped, I think the focus is pretty good this time
