Vesta + double star Algieba

Went out in the early hours to observe the asteroid Vesta make its close pass to the double star Gamma Leonis and 40 Leo.

Below is a drawing made at 02:30 UT. Algieba was split at 81x. Used 326x, and got the most beautiful view of the double star,

with faint diffraction rings visible around both stars.

I got a sketch of the area last night, I was planning to go out tonight to confirm the new position, guess what? Wall to wall cloud.

Love the sketch, it's a beautiful double and well worth observing.

I think this event must have been the easiest identification of Vesta I've ever had. Gamma Leo was a real bonus.
