Hi Everyone

Just to say that Im loving this site! Im new to this hobby, and have already posted a couple of enquries etc, but without introducing myself...well here goes!...

I live in Bristol, am in my early 40's, and am a mixture of english, scottish, and black american....in other words, 57 varieties! consequently, I look a bit of a mess, so with not much of a social life, i only go out at night! lol....needless to say, astronomy saved me from losing my mind!!!

More seriously tho, I have a backgroung in aviation & defence, and was once a promising aviation photographer, travelling the globe, getting my work published pretty much everywhere. I would often 'walk the ramp' of an evening, trying to see if i could include the moon or a sunset in any of my shots...and so began my fascination with astronomy! My late mother then bought me a canadian book called 'splendors of the universe', and I bought my first scope, an orion europa 150 6" soon after. I then was forced to sell my scope, and last year, after getting back on my feet, I again purchased an orion europa 150 6".

with it I have a basic dual axis drive, half-a-doz or so cheap eyepieces, and a canon 300D DSLR. However, nothing has prepared me for the difficulty involved in astrophotography....which is where you guys come in. Yes, forced to hide in the shadows during the daytime, this forum will hopefully transform my social standing, from one of a lepor during the day, to that of a kind of a social 'cat' during the night!!!!

So greetings one and all, and i look forward to learning more about this great hobby of yours!

cheers

Bob

Ps. can anyone tell me how do i view the picture of the week, and how would i go about submitting a pic?:)

Hello Bob, and welcome to the SGL Forum.

You can see the Picture of the Week at the top of every page.

Click on Clich Here and you will be able to read all the comments, and make one yourself if you wish.

If you want to put an image in one of your posts, Look below where you have written your post, and you will see a box with Manage Attachments in it. Click on it, and a table will appear top left.

There are some boxes, and a browse button to the right of each box.

Clicking on the browse button, will let you browse through your own files located on your own computer. Select the picture you want to display, and it's location will appear in the first box Then click upload, which is to the lower right of the browse boxes.

It could take a while for the image to upload, so wait until you see a message appear saying current attachments, when it does, you will see the file name of your picture. You can click on the preview button below the icons to see if it is as you want it. If it is click the submit reply button

You can post 5 pictures per post, but pay attention to the file sizes listed below the browse boxes.

You can also post images which may be hosted by Flickr, or some other host, in which case you need to provide the URL to the site.

The Upload from URL box is in the sameplace as the browse boxes.

I hope you can understand this, If you need any more help just ask.

Ron.:)
