  1. Funnily enough I was just going the old post titled EQ3-2 strip down which I followed originally. It just occurred to me as the bearings on the 3-2 are plain bushes, would there be any merit in lapping them in with a bit of fine metal polish and then clean and lubing them.
  2. Haha, poor English. What I meant to say was, would my existing goto from my EQ3-2 fit an EQ5 but having just had a look on the FLO site it would appear not. I passed my 3-2 tripod on many years ago after someone very kindly gave me an EQ5 tripod so I though it might help to get an EQ5 mount to go with it. To be honest for visual observation I'm perfectly happy with my present setup, my only gripe is the lack of build quality on the mount as I always struggle with balancing due to the friction levels inherent in the design. This is despite a complete strip down, clean and re-lube, although I have to say I managed to get the backlash to an acceptable level Oh well nevermind
  3. Thanks for that info, I'll leave it for now then. As I already had the eq5 tripod I thought the eq5 mount would be an improvement over the eq3-2.
  4. I currently have an EQ3-2 mount on an EQ5 tripod and I wondered if the bolt on GOTO would fit an EQ5mount. I can't justify a large expense but would like a mount that is a bit more stable.
  5. I've come home now but next time I go to my holiday home I'll check. Though I'm fairly sure there is a black adaptor between the draw tube and the new self centring holder. I would appreciate it if someone could post a pic of the correct way to mount the self centring holder. So I've just gone in my loft to my box of astro bits n pieces and what do I find, the original 1.25 holder and the original 2" holder. No wonder it wouldn't focus. What a tool!
  6. Hi Peter, no not tried a Barlow yet. Prior to my hamfisted bungling all was fine. I'm assuming at infinity the focuser should be racked in pretty close. The only thing altered is the addition of a Revelation Astro centring adaptor to replace the standard 1.25 holder but I seem to think it was about the same height. I'll try to rectify this but if all else fails I'll go back to the original eyepiece holder and see if the new holder is the problem or if I need an extension.
  7. I tried to use my explorer 150p to let my grandson observe the moon and found I could not achieve focus. For reasons I won't bore you with I have not used my scope since I dismantled it to flock the tube. It's obvious I have gone wrong in the reassembly as I could only achieve focus by holding the eyepiece above the focuser. I have adjusted the primary as near to the end of the tube as possible but to no avail so run out of ideas I'm afraid.
