Solar Activity 05 Jan

A fresh morning with mostly clear skies, occasional lumpy cloud, cool with a strong northerly wind.

The Sun's disc is threatening to become spotless - I was just able to see the trailing spot of AR1039 in white light, and there was a faint patch of faculae, but CaK was needed to show it convincingly

Still just about there in Ha too

But there was nothing else of any significance on the solar disk.

Proms, however, were located at all four "diagonal quarters"

Transparency good, seeing fairly poor, some smearing & significant boiling.

Thanks guys ... but the "white light" is calcium K line ....

The busy proms in the NE may herald the reappearance of AR11035 (?) Interesting is that there is very little prom activity over AR11039 as it goes "round the corner", the "mushroom cloud" prom in the SW quadrant is a fair way south of the AR.

How do the proms move Brian? Does the sun itself rotate, or does the active surface move with currents or something?

Big difference with the CaK, I can see why you guys get so excited about those now.

Thanks

Tim
