Hi,

Just got a Canon 1000D with nifty fifty and on a steep learning curve. Single frame taken at f2.8, ISO800, 15 secs on a tripod, without mirror lock-up. Some processing in paint.net. I hope someone can help me with a few questions:

1. are the elongated stars due to mirror vibration or star trailing.

2. DSS would only use one image in stack, whilst over 300 stars are detected and scores for the images are over 1000

Your help would be much appreciated.

Alan

I have found the hardest part of taking shots like this with my 1000d is getting the focus spot on. Everything appears great in the live view, zoomed in to x10 but the actual pics always seem to have blobs for stars rather than nice points. I will have to try stopping the lens down to f5.6 or 6.3. I have always assumed the lowest f stop to get the most light in and gone for f3.5, but obviously not.
