If you can find a local club to connect, you can bring your scope and son to "star parties" and get lots of useful tips and information plus enjoy the group energy and excitement. they are lots of fun, especially for visually oriented astronomers (imagers like isolation so red flashlights don't spoil our images) We also make light from our laptop displays that annoy visual guys and some like me that use generators make noise that isn't appreciated. so I stay away from public events...
