I've just found this forum whilst surfing the web for some telescope advice and thought I'd say hello and introduce myself.

My name is Dan, and I'm from Lichfield in the Midlands, and I've had an interest in space since I was small. I've only recently found that interest again, since moving to an area with much less light pollution (!). I had a telescope some years ago, an old Tasco reflector one that wasn't very good really. I've mostly used binoculars for casual gazing since, an old pair of 10x50's that were my Grandad's!

Since I've started enjoying the skies again, I'm looking for a new telescope, and the choices are quite daunting compared to what was available ten years ago, hence why I've joined this site to hopefully gather some advice.

I'm mainly hoping to observe planets, and the moon - in fact the moon is my main area of interest, followed by Jupiter. I'm mainly looking for something that will give good images of the moon, and I'd be happy to see the occasional cloud belt on Jupiter, so I don't think my requirements are overly expectant.

I'd also like to possibly take some photos, although this isn't an immediate need, I would possibly like to find a telescope that could hold a camera.

I don't have a huge budget for this, really around the £150-£175 mark, so I was wondering what would be a good telescope for this kind of price that would pick up these objects reasonably well.

Thanks for any advice and I hope to be a regular visitor :)
