Does anyone know if the standard tube rings that come with a Skywatcher ST80 would also fit an Skywatcher / Orion ED80 ? - or are the OTA's on the latter, fatter ?.

Thanks,

John,

North Somerset

It's the same tube as the ED100 too but cut to 600mm (f7.5) rather than 900mm (f9). Must save manufacturing costs as the focuser is the same

But Synta make 80mm scopes, I can't see why they've used the 100mm OTA at all.

Like i said, i think it's a cost reduction thing. Machines all tooled up for 100mm tubes etc

Plus they only have to make one focuser for all 3 OTA's (ED80, ED100, ED120)

But they have tubes for the StarTravel and Evostar 80mm scopes that would fit. Thats what I don't understand....it must be cheaper to use those?
