19th May Jupiter and Europa transit

Hi all,

Captured Jupiter and Europa transit this morning in 6/10 conditions with slight jetstream and patchy cloud. Got 3 avis before the primary in my 14" SCT dewed up.

Yes its unusual for primaries in SCTs to get dew on them. I cooled mine too much about a month ago and moisture got inside the OTA, where I have 2 fans mounted in the rear of the tube.

I stripped the scope today and cleaned the primary and corrector and sealed off the OTA so that moist air cannot enter it again.

I will also keep a canister of sillica gell in the 2" focuser when not in use to keep the internal air dry.

I hope that will stop this problem from rearing its ugly head again.

Due to the dew on the primary this image lacks contrast. Hope to get a better image next time.

BTW Where are you situated to get Jupiter at 60 degrees - it's only at about 23 degrees up here in North Wales.
