Aurora Panorama - North East Scotland

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

This is one I’ve been working on for the last day or two. It’s a panorama of sixteen shots stitched together and gives a view of the full arc and zenith of the Aurora as seen last Friday evening looking south east to south west. I still can’t believe what I saw myself…..AuroraPano-NEO.thumb.jpeg.024db274b633f8941993c1f6baf0e266.jpeg

That's superb.

I didn't think a panorama was possible since the arcs of light move...but 16 individual shots prove me wrong!

A lot of shortish exposures fired off in the general direction to be honest. Probably around twenty in total and then just finding the right stitch of those.

That makes what was an amazing event for so many,
well even more amazing in a single image.

Thank you for the effort put in to produce such a fine image and your sharing of the same.

Amazing! It’s like an Aurora waterfall. You should definitely enter this one in the landscape challenge 👍

Can I ask how you managed to stitch it? My bro in law has something similar but can’t get his to stitch completely. Obviously, could be due to other issues but would be interested to hear what you did.

Thank you! I stitched the raw files in Affinity Photo 2 and then exported the result. I’ve tried other programs to stitch in the past but, for me anyway, Affinity seem to do it as well as anything else.

Thanks ☺️ I’ll pass it on.
