580mm scope and a Altair astro 26m mono camera for comets?

I've captured Comets with just a camera and a 55mm lens.

Have a go with the equipment you have if that's what you have.

Try the FOV calculator to see how tight you might be on the comet versus the surrounding star field.

Thanks, could not find a fov calculator where you can add comets

I see what about using your chosen planetarium where you can add your telescope, camera and search for the comet and see what the FOV looks like

Very much depends on the proximity of the comet. When C/2022 E3 ZTF made its closest approach earlier this year I shot it at 550mm using a 4/3 sensor, and to be honest, I'd have liked a wider fov.

The suitability highly depends on whether the comet has an extended ion tail or not, many don't. This is 307mm with a 485 camera, the tail was reasonably long on this one but I couldn't capture it from where I was:
