Anyone imaging C/2022 E3 (ZTF) with a camera lens rather than a telescope?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Ive seen so many of your wonderful images of the comet and am planning my own in the next few days, but i will be using a 300mm canon lens. I have seen very few images taken with a lens, is anyone doing this? Is it a waste of my time?

Thanks

I don't own a scope, so all my astrophotography is with DSLR lenses.

This is a 300mm zoom lens @ f5.8 10 seconds single exposure, I used a pentax Astrotracer.

It's worth a go

Awesome work guys. Your images and a few more recently posted online have convinced me to attempt it myself...when and if the clouds over Kent move away.

Thanks for posting those.

Have great week

That looks awesome with the Samyang! I've got the exact same, 550D (astromodified), samyang 135mm and star adventurer. It's been very frustrating to wait for a clear night, but so good to see that the setup can work for the comet! Hope it'll clear up soon.

Experment with a vintage Pentacon 50mm f1.8 lens,  5am Jan20th, -5degC brrr
Canon 60D, fixed tripod

 100 x 5s ISO800, stacked in DSS

approx. 400pixel crop from the 5000pixel stacked original,
lots of levels&curves in Gimp and some extra saturation.

Very surprised to find both green and pink in it's tail.
So yes, deffo have a go :)

[ I would have posted earlier but 3 days without internet reduces the will to live (thanks Openreach - not :( ) ]
