Quick capture of the ISS

Could you explain which method you used to capture this image Taff.

Seems like afocal method, but I don't understand the tripod bit.

Hi Did'nt use a scope for the capture, my camera is a canon D300.The camera lens is a EF-S18-55MM F/3.5-5.6 Lens.I had the camera on the tripod when the ISS was coming over i found it in the camera lens.I had the camera set to bulb and pressing the camera trigger every 10 secons.I had taken a number of shots then i had a look for the best ones.A few of them was a trail but this was the best one i caught Thanks.Mark
