Observatory flooring?

Recommended Posts

If it was me I wouldn't make the floor too hard wearing.

I always worry about dropping a crucial eyepiece on a hard floor in the dark.

So it's carpet for me in my observatory which is also also more comfortable if I have to kneel down.

Make sure that the scope does not stand on the flooring itself as your movements will wobble the scope.

My obsy floor is made of tongue & groove floor boarding. This sits on small joists, which in turn sit on concrete blocks.

The pier passes through the floor, with a 3/4" gap around it, which is sealed with foam pipe wrap. As such, I can stamp around in the obsy without introducing vibrations into the pier.

The underside of the floor, is treated with several coats of Cuprinol preservative.

Inside, the floor is covered with carpet tiles.
