AstroLandscapes #31 - Misty Fenland Venus and Crescent Moon

Recommended Posts

I had a short window last night before my wife went out to capture the moonset, and as I needed to stay very local I looked for an alignment with our local village church.  A sunny afternoon was giving way to a very dewy, misty evening and the mist seemed almost aquamarine in the fading blue hour light.  Even though I was out for only 20 minutes or so, my camera was soaked when I packed it away - it gets like that here in the Fens!

I was pleased to capture Dschubba just above Venus too.

📷 Canon 6D with Sigma 150-600mm lens at 300mm f/5.6

🔧 Blend of 3 exposures (0.25s and 2.0s at ISO 200, 20.0s at ISO400)

🎞 LR and PS

Hope you enjoy it. 😊

This is a very timely shot for me as I was thinking about a moon shot in a city environment ( I believe I have a city close by ! ) I love the subtle earthshine but the light pollution would probably kill it round here.

Did you try a longer focal length as the 300 may be a bit short for what I'm thinking ?

A lovely misty shot :)

Hi Dave

I’d originally planned this shot nearer to 600mm (the longest I have), but I realised earlier in the day there was a inconveniently placed tree that meant I could get the shot from that location, so I swapped it out for a 300mm shot from closer.  But, so long as you’re planning well I’d say you can push the focal length on these - and I definitely hope to soon!!
