Svbony CLS Canon EOS Filter with astro mod?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Thinking of getting one of these from Amazon. It says that its for unmodded camera in description but can it be used with a modded (it would seem so when I check against similar other makes listed in Flo/RVO)?

Svbony CLS Filter Light Pollution Filter EOS Clip Filter for CCD Cameras DSLR Reduce Light Pollution: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

I have all LED lighting (street and 'security') around me in Bortle 7/8 skies as the council has replaced the majority of sodium now. Will this make a visible difference with my modded 1100d?

If not, is there an alternative that doesn't cost hundreds?

Apologies if this is a really stupid question, but I'm still very much getting to grips with AP.

Cheers

Daz

You can see from the spectrum in your link that the CLS rejects 600nm, the Sodium streetlamp frequency, and passes Ha and other ionised gas frequencies in two separate bands.

The DSLR Ha mod will further improve the Ha response.

However, the main LED street lighting spectrum peak is at 450nm, which is just inside the lower Passband of the CLS.

I was looking for info on this a couple of days ago, I think this video will help.

Thanks! That's a great comparison - can't believe I didn't try YouTube (which is my usual goto) before asking!

Thanks Michael, yeah, its LED that is my main source locally but I guess there will be general LP too.

Hi

As you'll lose the ability to reproduce natural colour with the CLS anyway, how about a UHC? We prefer the latter to the -much more expensive- duo band filters. It gives a similar if not almost identical effect to the latter.

The 2" version is more economical and does the same job.
