M51 - Whirlpool Galaxy

Despite the full moon and the cold managed to capture M51, sky washed out with the moon so not as good as on a dark night but got to make the best of the clear skies.

2 Hours - 26 Min total exposure (12 x 3 Min + 22x 5 Min Subs) @ ISO800 with the unmodded 400D, ED80 on the EQ5 guided.

Frozen so off to bed, -7' at the moment, can't hack it any longer

Great shots Brendan, M51 is a great galaxy to image and I think it's nice to see a widefield of it.

It was still over 50% cloud here at midnight and was about 10% at 3am at which time i decide the sky background was to bright to do much at all and called it a night...

Wow mighty impressive. What camera are you guiding with as you don't mention it.

Looks like you caught a fuzzie at the bottom of the crop image as well.

Mick, the guide camera was a QHY5 coupled up to a Sigma 400mm f5.6 camera lens.

Very nice!

I was trying to find this through the eyepiece a couple of nights ago but was getting nowhere. Moon too bright and I think there was some high haze. I'll get to see it one day!
