Venus from 7th Feb

Inspired by MrEd's recent cracking image of Venus with cloud detail, I purchased a Wratten 47 filter and tonight I had my first chance to try it out. Unfortunately, after getting set up, I managed just two avi's of 300 frames each before the clouds covered Venus. :(

Although no cloud detail is to be seen in this image, I'll keep trying over the next few weeks and I'll be posting the results here.

Hi Tony

Its a great disk but if you want clouds

in the visible you need to do a couple more things

1 Most impotantly is seeing - down here its CARP

at the moment and i have not even bothered with Venus or the moon.

2 you need to aim for over 1000 frames,2000 is better.

3 Dont consider leaving the IR block off the IR leak is quite severe with a w47.

If anything consider an IR block the ignors most of the UV part of the spectrum.

(i know they are on opposite sides of the spectrum but most IR block also block UV)

I promise it will work this way.

Cheers

Ed
