Question Re. accurate polar alignment.

Is it possible to use the alignment offset readout on the Syn-Scan handset to refine the polar axis, obviously using the Az. and Alt knobs on the mount? Will the readout change whilst doing this?

if using external knobs to the Synscan software, then no, there will be no update on the Synscan display....

The syncan handset does have a PA correction that uses goto's and gets you to visually centre the target using the bolts, done as an interative proces bit by bit to get a better alignment.

And of course the PA utilities such as Polemaster, Sharpcap PA and others do that based on a live view using those bolts.

Thank you for your reply. So use a star obtained by go-to and use the bolts to centre it as near as possible and then repeat on subsequent targets ?

Thanks, I don't know how I missed that......should've gone to Specsavers?  Just wishing these clouds would go, I'm sure we get fewer clear nights here than in the past.
