Mercury as a Winter Evening Star

CentaurZ

Recommended Posts

Elusive Mercury has commenced its apparition in the western sky after sunset following its superior conjunction behind the Sun on 2020 DEC 19. This should be a rather favorable apparition except for observers south of the tropics.

Photos and descriptions of Mercury during this apparition would be welcome additions to this thread.

I have seen Mercury through bins a handful of times. Not through a telescope unfortunately. I don’t have clear enough views to the horizon. I have always got a bit of a thrill from spotting when I have by eye or bins. Once you get your eye in it’s interesting to keep track of it as the days go by.
