North Pole Hoax

Have you seen this picture? Lots of people are finding it in their email boxes, purporting to be the sun and moon seen from the North Pole. Don't believe it. In the fake photo, the moon appears fantastically larger than the sun. Fact: the angular diameter of the moon never exceeds the diameter of the sun by more than 6%. The two should be about the same size, even at the North Pole.

It's a stunning picture, but what is the point of such a silly hoax? Anyway, at the North pole, shouldn't the moon appear either to the right or left of the sun? No, I suppose not. Still, it is a stunning piece of art.

I believe that in summer there can be water on top of the ice at the north pole. Besides, Global Warming, doncherknow...
