Are magnets good for mirrors.

I just wanted to check up if by placing strong magnets near your mirror cell (Back of lower OTA) they could harm or distort the mirror or view in anyway. Similar to placing magnets near a TV type thing.

Thx

Very much doubt if they would have any effect on the mirror, maybe the back plate, but only if made of an ferrous material, but then it would have to be a very powerful magnet.

In short the answer is no.

Well as the suspense is killing you.....

I'm fitting a "Push to" encoder on to the bolt that goes through the base board. This raises the height so catches the aftermarket weights I've bolted onto the mirror cell when the dob is moved to its vertical position.

If I remove this weight it needs repositioning. No where really to drill another hole so my idea is to place a strong magnet in the correct position and just put the weight onto the magnet.

thats it.
