NGC-6888 The Crescent [or Space Brain]

Had a go at the Crescent in the last clear patch we had in May and ended up playing about a bit too much with the NB colour channels so thought I'd post a few variations.

The first is SHO to RGB.

Second is OSH to RGB.

Third is HSO to RGB.

Fourth is HS 50:50 to Red and O to Blue.

Fifth is H to Red, HO 80:20 to Green and ) to Blue.

The colours seem to have come out extremely strong and I've had to cut back the saturation a little.

As you know, there is no correct colour for narrowband just conventions and artistic (or not) license.

Yup, looked like a zombie threw up his brain.

So I guess 5 brains are better than 1....!! My favourites are the first and last ones, with the last one my overall preference.

Cheers Geof, they're probably the better renditions. You can just keep going with colour combo's and variations, might try something a little more subtle next.

Mark, you have some fabulous data there but they are all a bit psychodelic.  For me the original hubble palette is the best option.  The key thing is to try to balance the individual colour channel histograms to achieve a balance.

Nasty looking. Working on another variation.

Oh I dunno... it's always good to see things done in a different way.

Maybe try an HOO version too?  Obviously the [OIII] line is between green and blue so you get reasonably natural star colour.
