Scope balancing WO 71GT

Recommended Posts

I’m somewhat tail heavy on my new imaging rig. I gather that’s not unusual with the WO short F ratio refractors. Could someone give me a heads up on the best way to relieve this; my current thoughts were along the lines of a longer dovetail bar, moving it forwards and perhaps turning it over to stop the focusser fouling? TIA.

I had the same issue with an 80ED, I got a longer dovetail and extended it forward then ended up with a baader clamp and counter weight, I recently switched mounts which moved all the weight back again so ended up adding another counter weight and 2 kg of lead to get it to balance (I cant move any further forward because of an auto focuser fitted.

You could always bolt a hefty weight to the front of the dovetail then side it further back?

This is 5kg bolted to the front of my rig to move it back so that the dew shield doesn't touch the walls of the observatory.
