C70 Mini Mak - Variable Polarising Filter

Recommended Posts

When I fit an eyepiece with my variable polarising filter into my C70 the eyepiece does not go all the way into the eyepiece holder because of a shoulder in the scope. The eyepiece clamps ok into position but not all the way in the holder.

Is this a potential problem and should I swap this for say a moon filter.

Thanks Niko ....

Which brand of variable polarising filter is it?

I use this type--->5addf27ccac70_variablemoonfilter.jpg.e490ce031fc7badb2a139b6d8384c995.jpg ...and purchased from a well known auction site.

I have no issues with it.

I dont own one of these but if it is not causing you any problems then leave it if it's not doing what it was bought for then change it for something that does.

Any chance of adding some images? ...i.e. with & without.

Sorry! ...my brain is trying to think outside the box and does not get it.
Another strong caffine :coffee: I think!

My only concern is the fact that the eyepiece does not go all the way into the housing so the eyepiece is further away than it should be but not by much. Will this affect anything in a detrimental way.

Probably, test it out in the middle of the day on a brick wall and count the rows of bricks with and without the filter, I guess you would change the focal length by projecting the eyepiece further out and thats not to say it's a detrimental/bad thing, make sure the filter isn't touching the mirror/prism.

Did the brickwall test with my 32 mm eyepiece. First of all the eyepiece does not snag anything in the scope or interfere with the mirror with the filter fitted. There are no problems focusing on the brick wall with or without the filter fitted. I believe there is a slight increase in focal length by less than half a brick.

Thanks Niko...
